چکیده

Inorganic nanoand mesoporous materials can be prepared with a variety of compositions, structures, and macroscopic morphologies. Due to their wide range of properties and applications, a detailed understanding of the mechanisms governing their formation under different synthesis conditions is of particular interest. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy offers a variety of powerful and complementary techniques for acquiring insights on the molecular processes and structures that underly crystallization or self-assembly of these complex heterogeneous systems. This review examines contributions from NMR and EPR spectroscopy to the recent developments and current understanding in the nucleation and growth of nanoporous molecular sieves and mesoporous inorganic solids. © 2006 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Comparative study on pore structures of mesoporous ZSM-5 from resorcinol-formaldehyde aerogel and carbon aerogel templating.

Resorcinol-formaldehyde aerogels and carbon aerogels of different mesoporosities have been used as templates for preparing bimodal zeolites of mesopores. Samples were thoroughly characterized with X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, N(2) adsorption at 77 K, as well as FT-IR spectroscopy and (29)Si nuclear ...

New insights into zeolite formation from molecular modeling

We review recent molecular modeling efforts to shed light on the mechanisms of zeolite formation. We focus on studies that model the early stages of silica polymerization and zeolite nucleation. Electronic structure calculations, classical molecular dynamics, atomistic Monte Carlo simulations and Monte Carlo simulations of lattice models have been used to probe the formation of zeolites and mes...

3D Study of the Morphology and Dynamics of Zeolite Nucleation.

The principle aspects and constraints of the dynamics and kinetics of zeolite nucleation in hydrogel systems are analyzed on the basis of a model Na-rich aluminosilicate system. A detailed time-series EMT-type zeolite crystallization study in the model hydrogel system was performed to elucidate the topological and temporal aspects of zeolite nucleation. A comprehensive set of analytical tools a...

New insights into the role of amines in the synthesis of molecular sieves in ionic liquids.

A combination of state-of-the art in situ one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy and density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been employed for the first time to investigate the role of amines in the synthesis of aluminophosphate molecular sieves in ionic liquids (ILs). In situ rotating-frame nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy (ROESY) was used to demonstrate that the hybrid of i...

Diffusion in Porous Media

Porous media are of considerable interest in a very diverse range of activities. They comprise a wide variety of substances—plastics, ceramics, cements, clays, rocks, porous glasses, carbons, silica gels, zeolites, the recently emerging metal–organic frameworks and coordination polymers, and many more. Even biological tissues may share many features of porous media. Depending on the given natur...
